Anybody else frustrated at candidate quality on both sides of the election?

27 Oct 2026

Look at the election in Texas, with James Talarico and Ken Paxton. Or here in Ohio, with Vivek Ramaswamy and Amy Acton. In a binary choice election, why do we end up with these type choices? Lots of political analysis we could do to answer this, but I’ll answer with perhaps my shortest post ever: Maybe God is just continually shouting at us, stop putting your trust in princes, put your trust (and your hope) in me! As it says in Psalm 146:

3 Put not your trust in princes,
    in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.
4 When his breath departs, he returns to the earth;
    on that very day his plans perish.

5 Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
    whose hope is in the Lord his God,
6 who made heaven and earth,
    the sea, and all that is in them,
who keeps faith forever;
7     who executes justice for the oppressed,
    who gives food to the hungry.

The Lord sets the prisoners free;

When we see things that just don’t make sense in this world, we need to be looking vertically, not horizontally for answers. Today is still a very good day. God is not surprised at the depravity all around, and in His sovereign plans you and I were intended to be alive today for the challenges (the good and bad) of this world today. Today we will rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and in everything give thanks. For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for us. Have a blessed day!
