Clarity on the morality of Democratic policies

27 Aug 2020

It’s easy to get into the almost clinical dissection of various policies and which political party has better values. Partisans of both political parties have attacks on the morality of the other side, as this week’s Republican convention does what the Democrats did earlier. Yet some data help clarify moral questions. For me it’s the Democratic Party’s unrelenting pursuit of the culture of death in the abortion industry. Every abortion deliberately kills an innocent human being, in the most violent method possible. We are outraged (rightly) at the death of George Floyd, and we are concerned about the possible loss of life of Hurricane Laura (rightly) and yet the average day in the United States will see approximately 2,000-3,000 innocent babies slaughtered in their mother’s womb. They will be dismembered, their beating hearts stopped, and thrown away as just so much trash to be cleaned up. The Democratic Party cheers this on as a fundamental human right, and there is no room for pro-life people in the Democratic Party. In their 2020 platform, in the section of their values, they make clear their commitment to the killing of unborn children:

We will support sexual and reproductive health and rights around the globe. In addition to expanding the availability of affordable family planning information and contraceptive supplies, we believe that safe abortion must be part of comprehensive maternal and women’s health care and included as part of America’s global health programming. Therefore, we support the repeal of harmful restrictions that obstruct women’s access to health care information and services, including the “global gag rule” and the Helms Amendment that bars American assistance to provide safe, legal abortion throughout the developing world.

The magnitude of this evil, and yes there is no other way to describe this than as evil, is simply stunning. Numbers of deaths are always subject to qualifications, yet commonly available reasonable estimates of abortion deaths compared to the monstrous evils of Hitler, Stalin & Mao put it into perspective:

For those quibbling at the numbers, I don’t disagree–there are wide ranges that one can find, but go find your own numbers and create this chart yourself. You’ll still be left with the same conclusion–abortion is just about as bad as the worst genocides the world has ever seen. An ongoing holocaust that we daily close our eyes to.

Some will find this post offensive, but I find myself saying why haven’t I said and done more? When will this monstrous evil stop? And how can we possibly tolerate it as just another political position? Let me put it another way. The absolute devastation of abortion to black Americans is mind-boggling. According to census data, African-Americans were estimated at just over 40M in 2017. And ~20M black babies have been sacrificed on the abortion alter since 1973. Without abortion, we would have had 50% more African-Americans bringing their unique gifts and talents into the world; lives that were being intricately woven in their mother’s womb by the hand of God.

For you formed my inward parts;
    you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
    my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
    intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

Black lives mattering is certainly more than abortion, but it is certainly not less. Can we be woke to this evil too?
