Perhaps none of our readers remember this man, but Ken Hechler just celebrated his 100th birthday, making him the oldest living member (former or present) of Congress. Mr, Hechler is from West Virginia, my home state, and lived in Huntington, my hometown. I remember seeing him driving around town in his jeep and also that he actually spent much time in his district, not in DC–an rarity today. Though he is a Democrat by party affiliation, and something of a liberal, he was always approachable and friendly to everyone. So Happy Birthday Ken Hechler from a former constituent.  Even though we disagree, that is still quite an accomplishment.
