In what I hope will become a running feature here at Bereans @ The Gate, here are links of interest for today:

A sliver of the GOP attempted a coup against John Boehner for Speaker of the House. They failed. Now, there are consequences. Some of them will lose choice committee slots. If you plan a revolution, it better succeed. Otherwise… Politico has the goods.

Of course, the Republicans took formal control of the U.S. Congress today (hence Boehner’s election). One of their first orders of business is to pass a bill that builds the Keystone pipeline, which would bring oil and gas from Canada into the U.S. Yesterday, the White House made it clear that President Obama will veto such a bill.

Bob McDonnell (R-VA), former governor of Virginia, was sentenced to two years for violating the state’s ethics laws. This is a swift fall for a man once thought to be presidential material. The Washington Post has a reasonable write-up.

Speaking of ethics problems, Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) has become a fixture at recent Dallas Cowboys games, seemingly as a guest of owner Jerry Jones. Turns out this may be a violation of New Jersey’s ethics laws. Uh-oh.

Stocks continue to slide.

Have a tremendous Wednesday.
